more baby steps

Actually a larger step this time. The "fast list" code is pretty much done. It's using the lovely new code for rendering and so on. So all that's left in theory is to redo all the lists to use this new. And clean up the interface a little bit. You can see a demo of sorts here. Note the blazing speed and the instant refresh.

I'm hoping that your finished update will maintain the current layout and features of the Alpha. I've come to depend on it. Your test demo is radically different.

I, on the other hand, hope it will stay closer to the layout of the beta ;-)
Anyway; Simon - thank you so much for devoting time to this. With 500+ kb my mGTD is currenly frustratingly slow (in spite of webbrunner app).
Keep it up, please :-)

I'm with the alpha layout :-)
The speed is certainly a great improvement; thanks for your hard work on this.

@Matias: I can't remember exactly, but I believe MonkeyGTD 1.x had been named "Beta" at some time while MonkeyGTD 2.1 alpha r91 and MonkeyGTD 2.1 alpha r2018M hadn't been more than an alpha release, yet (as shown in the name).

I assume, that you're also using an "alpha", because you mentioned the realms, which don't exist in previous versions (if Simon doesn't have unreleased versions with that feature...)

schilke - you don't need GTD; you're even keeping track of my things better than I am ;-)
You're absolutely correct! Thanks!

Your work on this "beta alpha" is very promising. Thanks for making and sharing this excellent tool! For what it's worth, I'm very happy with a no-left-column-cluttering-my-main-view layout as in alpha r91, and also happy with having the right column always visible.

As usual I get to be the one that points out what IE broke this time.

AAMptwAppFramework: Error: Expected identifier, string or number

IndexedTagsPlugin: Error: Object doesn't support this property or method

Ken,
Is this the reason why the area cannot be selected in IE? I have to open r91 in FF to assign an area to my projects.

@snowjoe: this hasn't been implemented into the r91 - nor any other version, yet.
I would assume, Simon just wanted to keep the fire burning for the next version... ;-)

I've got two MonkeyGTD's currently, one for work and one for home, and I just dropped by to say thanks :) I've looked at the test page, and I can't wait for the next release :) Cheers!

@schilke: Are you saying the area feature is not suppose to work yet? Because as I've mentioned it works in my FireFox.

@snowjoe: no, I was just pointing out, that ken was reporting the IE difficulties of the Test, not a specific MonkeyGTD version - because that speed improvement hasn't been integrated, yet.

But (that's probably what you mean?): there are still problems with IE and I'm pretty sure that Simon doesn't feel lucky with them.
But since Molly E. Holzschlag (old school web activist of The Web Standards Project) and the Internet Explorer team now are "Working Together for a Better Web" some people are hoping that this will change dramatically ;-)

...and just for completeness: yes, it seems that areas can't be assigned in IE (tested on v6) - sad...

BTW: If you notice problems or have questions regarding MonkeyGTD, it's always a good idea to stop by at the GTD TiddlyWiki Google Group, as there might be a quicker response and more people who can help ;-)

It's great, but I'm so aching for it to go faster. Go Go Go!!!

Would be nice for defaults to be selected for areas and realms. Or am I a version behind? What is the best place to drop wishes into the wishing well ;-)

Dave,

Can you add two really helpful features?

Is there anyway you can create a breakdown (in percentages) of how much time you spend on a particular project given a period of time?

For what it's worth, my vote is with the Beta version.

I like the idea of an uncluttered Dashboard with all my tasks arranged by project. One of the most inconvenient things about the older versions was having to figure out which project each task belonged to, without clicking on them individually.

Good work. Please keep it up.
